__TOC__ === In Search of the Fifth Hero ===
Dear Antioch Fans,

Over the last couple of days, I've received some interesting mail from you all concerning the identity of the "secret" fifth hero for Episode II of The Antioch Chronicles. Here are some of the more amusing and/or curious entries:

The secret hero is: John Cleese. --Vonce

It's got to be Auspex. That's you, special hero. No wait, I changed my mind. It's Elvis. See, he was abducted by the Protoss way back when. Now it's been more than 500 years so they've fed him a lot and he is now HUGE! If they feed him the right foods, he's got a big enough internal engine that an explosion would be larger than 5 million apocalypse class warheads!!! Or they could just drop him on a planet and flatten it! --The Stevens

Could the secret hero be Tassadar? He could have been thrown from the Gantrithor and was badly injured and has just recently recovered. --Proteus135

I have 2 guesses. It could either be Barney the Dinosaur who has come to help out the Zerg in scaring the hell out of the Protoss and Terrans. Or maybe it's Jar Jar Binks, rejected from Star Wars Episode I who has come to annoy the hell out of the Zerg and win it for the Protoss and Terrans. --Cerberus

[Hmm. Actually, I didn't mind Jar Jar all that much... amazing CGI, too. --Auspex]

In response to this "speculation" concerning the new secret character. Despite not knowing even the race of this character, I have strangely convinced myself that this person is one of the original heroes of the StarCraft and/or Brood War campaigns. My best guess would be Artanis, possibly killed and resurrected as a Dragoon. Such a complication would create interesting plot devices, and also drive home the prospect that the Antioch campaigns and the original Blizzard campaigns are all interconnected in a complex web of plot line and character development. Not only would such an endeavor create the aforementioned "connection" between the two campaigns, but also might please many fans who have wished to see one of the original heroes make an appearance in Antioch. --The Flaming Mog

Gorak, the drunk Zergling. It HAS to be him, man! --LUNATIC439

Although I don't know much about Negative Suns' plotline, I think that the 5th hero should be a Zerg/Protoss hybrid, like in the Brood War bonus missions... I am really interested in this new hybrid, and am eagerly awaiting Starcraft II. Only problem about the 5th hero thing is that you would have to create a whole new unit... I don't think you could just use a Zealot or Hydralisk. --BladeKnight (SP)

I KNOW I KNOW!!! The new hero is definitely a Fenix whose brain was encased in a Reaver's body, after his Dragoon body was destroyed, and enhanced by Goliath, Siege Tank, and Dragoon parts, and Negative Archon (combination of High and Dark Templar, just something I made up =) energy, who was captured by the resurrected Cerebrate Zasz and infested except he actually broke out of the Zerg control coming out of the debacle with a combination of the the best Protoss, Zerg, and Terran units to become the ultimate fighter!!! (Hey, you said you wanted outlandish. =) Soooo do I win anything??? P.S. This, if you haven't guessed already, isn't one iota serious. =) --Guymelef

[No, but it certainly DOES take the cake for the ol' wacky factor. --Auspex]

Could this mysterious fifth hero, cloaked in mystery and intrigue actually be a Zerg??? I think it could... possibly an infested Terran of some manner (similar to Duran) and yet this individual still maintains his/her soul and self control. Even if I'm wrong, that WOULD be an interesting character. ; ) Hope Negative Suns is more than I'm hoping for, Auspex... Best of luck to you and the Antioch Team. --HolyWing/John Hathaway

It's Mason Rockwell's evil clone! THE CROCK!!!!! ;) --Striker (SCL)

[Ytse-Jam would get a kick out of that. --Auspex]

I would like to try guessing who the mystery character is. My guess is that you will have a Zerg hero of some kind, since all of your heroes so far have been Terran or Protoss. I think that this hero will use either the Infested Kerrigan unit or the Infested Duran unit. This unit may even be one of the existing heroes who becomes infested. Anyway, that's my guess. --David Gershkoff

I think that the new hero will be a walking talking psionic hybrid critter that Duran made to thwart the Terran/Protoss heroes. --Archer7

It's Samir Duran's not-really-evil-just-kinda-annoying twin, Samir Hanson! --Bluemage

As you can see, there's a lot of speculation going on. Thanks to everyone who sent in their opinions, as well as those who continue to send them in. There's a lot to read, and not much space to post, but you've all raised some interesting (and quite funny) questions.

Oh well... there's always the Episode III characters...

--Auspex Turmalis, June 2, 1999
=== The Mystery Search Continues ===
Dear Antioch Fans,

The mail keeps pouring in. Here are a few more thoughts from the fans:

Auspex: I know who the fifth hero will be! It will be the Fenix ship, piloted by Auspex Desler! It could also be one of the various other characters created by Desler. Failing that, it will be... INFESTED EDMUND DUKE!!! That's right! When you destroyed the Norad II (or was it III?) he escaped in a lifepod. Kerrigan came upon his crashed pod, and returned him to the hive to be infested. Eventually the Zerg realized how annoyingly useless he was, and so banished him from the Zerg. They gave him a captured Terran Dropship to fly around in, and now he wanders the universe, forever detached from the hive mind, forever in turmoil. He must supress his Zerg killer instinct, while searching for a way to salvage whatever may be left of his life, and his soul. The big question is: Is he more zerg, or more Duke? All his searching will be a quest to answer that question. So, am I right? (Even if you don't use him, I will! =) --Codebreaker

[Reminds me of The Fly or any classic sci-fi disfigurement / metamorphosis movie. --Auspex]

Ok... I know you might be through taking suggestions for the secret 5th hero in Episode Two but I have one. Tell me what you think, and this is not some crappy ass hero like all the others that were thought of. At the ending to Episode I v1.04SE, at the very end where you command the hero Arbiter (I forgot how to spell his name) [Uhh, that would be Turmalis. --Auspex] a Carrier and four Scouts, you are attacked by four squadrons of three Wraiths. My idea for the secret character is this: A pilot of one of those Wraiths is shot down and captured by Mox's men. Later, after finding out [Mox and the Protoss' plan], he manages to reclaim his Wraith and escape back to the Combine! Later in the game, you find out that his forces have betrayed him and he has crash-landed on a planet (or in the game, he is just cloaked and you rescue him, but there is a time limit in the level cause three SCVs have to repair his fighter to get it running). He then becomes Mox's 3rd in command! Well, what do ya think? Is it worth putting into the game? --Shadow-Wo|f

[Well, it's too late now, isn't it? ;-) --Auspex]

Well, not really about the 5th hero, but I was wondering if you ever saw Varsity Blues. The protagonist was named Charlie Moxon, but was generally referred to as Mox. I wondered whether the writer was an avid SC fan (though I suspect the script was written well before Antioch came out) or whether it was just a humorous coincidence. Obviously you don't know the answer, but I figured you'd be interested. --Mark R. Yohalem

[Learn somethin' new every day. Of COURSE you KNOW it's a ripoff! ;-) --Auspex]

I would like to take a guess at this hero. It has to be a Zealot, with an evil name like Spider or something strong-sounding like that, maybe with a mean streak down him that makes the heroes wonder whether or not he is infested by the Zerg. --Daniel Newkirk

[Do you mean "mean streak," or "white stripe"? For some reason that reminded me of Stripe in Gremlins... or Mohawk, but maybe that was Gremlins 2. --Auspex]

I believe the secret hero is a female one for several reasons. First, there's the noted absence of any female voices in Antioch's all-male population of cast members. Secondly, with the Terran Ghost hero Sarah Kerrigan no longer in use by Blizzard and a ready female Ghost wireframe available, Auspex has probably decided that it's time to give Antioch some feminine spice. It would be difficult to predict who the new hero will be, and my guess is that it'll be some obscure character created by Auspex rather than a character established by Blizzard (to the best of my knowledge there is no other female Terran character ever mentioned by Blizzard anyway). Although using a Blizzard character is an interesting idea, Auspex has stated that a new portrait and sounds will be included, instantly vaporizing that idea. Well, there's my two cents on the (insert the X-Files Theme) 'secret' hero. --Xavier

[Yes, Antioch does need a female character. It's just a question of when she appears. Oh, and as for the rest of the comments in your E-mail, Xavier, I found them amusing. --Auspex]

Will this new hero be playable in a mission? Or will you fight against him? I think I might know who he is.... I've been reading about Trent Aster and how he's always trying to contact a man named Trench. Could this new hero be Trench? Who knows... Trench might even be a base or something... --MarkJK99

[Uhh, "Trench" is Trent Aster's callsign, his handle, his codename. Hence, the name Trent "Trench" Aster. Don't worry, there's another Dr. Claw-like figure for him to mess with... Read the "Trench in Bora Dalis" production update. And yes, the new hero WILL be playable. --Auspex]

A Dark Templar Dragoon? Or maybe an infested Protoss Zealot? I have it! Diablo! He got warped into the future at the end of Diablo 2 while trying to cast a spell to rid the world of all light, but instead succeeded in making a tiny black hole which he got sucked into and ended up in the middle of a Zerg base where he was quickly attacked and infested, where his powers were added to the Zerg's and now they start attack the Terrans and Protoss with Zergling and Hydralisk skeletons while infested goat-men shoot you with arrows from afar. And then (since it's a 5th HERO and not a VILLAIN), Diablo, for no apparent reason, suddenly realizes that evil is bad and joins the Protoss to fight the Zerg. --Derokis

[Mr. Mackie voice from South Park: "Now, evil... evil is bad, m'kay? Don't be evil, because if you're evil, you're bad... m'kay?" --Auspex]

Hey, just a stupid guess, I know it is wrong, but: The name is "Assistyou." Is that right, cause I saw [in] the production update, [in] the voice editing part that the name for the wave is Assistyou.wav. Heheh, I know I am wrong. Just a guess. Maybe his name is Auspex or Desler, who knows, but I think Assistyou is a good one and Auspex is also a good one cause it gives the player [a better] chance of knowing you. :) Stupid me. :) :) --Conlyn

[There are no stupid people, just stupid answers. NO, NO, WAIT! Just kidding! --Auspex]

I think it will be Bill Clinton!!!! That's right, ol' Bill. He was frozen in suspended animation in order to save this weapon against the Zerg. No, wait a minute, I think he is an infested Terran... That's it!! Infested Bill Clinton!!!!!!!! Also, it might be a walking table. (Maybe that's a little toooo outlandish. :) --Zergling5 (CW)

Some of these characters might appear in Episode III, especially Bill Clinton. ;-)

Gettin' there,

--Auspex Turmalis, June 4, 1999
=== The Identity of the Mystery Hero ===
Dear Antioch Fans,

Tuesday, June 22 is Episode II Two-sday, which means not only that is Negative Suns about to be released, but also that the identity of the secret fifth hero has finally been revealed. Who is it, you might ask? Well, before we get to that, I'd like to run through a few final E-mail submissions, and see if anyone got lucky.

Well, it might be too late now to tell one's guess, as it's the day that Antioch E2 is coming. But, well here's my guess: Kerrigan's unknown sister (since psi probably is in the genetic structure), who has some cloudy memories, and an awkward headache and does things she cannot control, without knowing why. Probably, she is locked in somewhere in some installation, because she's too dangerous (as she surely has castrated some men "by accident" while she hasn't been herself). Probably, after the Antioch army has rescued her, she slowly understands why she sometimes isn't herself and goes to assassinate Kerrigan. She probably will be this [..] close, but fails, as Kerrigan again takes control over her body for a while and kills (or is near to killing) some of the important Protoss. --Miekko

[Hmm... pretty creative there, but that's not what I had in mind. Plus, for that interaction to occur, I'd have to get Glynnis Talken to reprise Kerrigan, and I don't know her that well, aside from a few E-mails. Besides, I'd probably have to pay her. ;-) --Auspex]

Well, we all know there really isn't a fifth hero. What you're really trying to do is get ideas from your fans! Oh, and while we are also on evil Auspex anyway, we also know you're trying to use the voices in your campaign to mind-control everyone and take over the world! *insert evil laugh here* --Templisk

[Dammit. I thought I told you never to mention that. Blizzard ain't the only organization trying to mind-control people through their products. ;-) A little tip of the hat to the old CWALers out there. --Auspex]

This is about that fifth hero thing that is going on. I am a big Antioch fan and can't wait for Episode II to be released. I think this fifth hero will be Protoss and I also think it might be a female Dark Templar, like the one in Brood War. I can't remember her name right now. She would be a really cool addition to Antioch. As well as Rockwell. I like him. Heh heh. I hope we find out soon. I can't wait! --Predator-x-

[The female Protoss you're thinking of is Raszagal, Matriarch of the Dark Templar. While I agree that the addition of a female hero would make Antioch even better --you know, I never said I wasn't going to introduce a female character --it's not happening in Episode II. Good guess, though. --Auspex]

I know you already have the character planned --I mean, a person doesn't wait till the last minute to add a totally new character to a cast of only 4 new heroes. Anyways, in the tradition of good manners and plot, I believe the new hero is a female, of course. If you hadn't included a female, many would see it as not making much sense, including me. I mean, in a story so deep in detail, I find it hard to believe there are no females important to the story's events. She would be most likely a Protoss, seeing as how a Terran female is much too easy to formulate a personality for, and knowing you... you want a challange. So you may have a Protoss female planned. Perhaps she is an elder, like Raszagal, and is most likely NOT a High Templar --there are enough of those, so she is possibly the commander of a ship, say... a Corsair. Being a Corsair pilot, she's got a little attitude to her. She is brave and ready to fight for a cause, and then some. She doesn't necessarily have to be Shakuras-originated. Her part in the story is perhaps vital, but I doubt that. If you really want a twist, she gets killed off. This raises some speculation among the other heroes, along with anger and vengefulness. They go out and seek her murderer, and find that it was actually one of the main heroes. Just the search for the killer keeps the audience in their seats. Then the thought that it was a hero rattles their brains. So she is dead, her killer found, but the killer got away. This leaves open a number of choices for the heroes --go after the killer, or continue on their primary objective. They choose to let the killer be for the greater cause. Later on the killer returns with an unbelievable story, interconnecting all of the heroes enemies in a twisting vine of greed and revenge. And all because of that single female Protoss Dark Templar... then you have to think of why she was killed. She knew something, had something, or some other hidden reason yet to be solved... The heroes defeat the killer and succeed in their objective. But the whole reason for her death leaves the door open for the next episode... "(her name)'s Secret". It's just a thought. :) --Siege

[Hmm. Someone's gettin' a little warmer, but not by much. You're still way cold. As for the whole female thing, I agree that in a story so complex, it would be lame NOT to have any women. With that said, I WILL note, however, that the new hero is not female. Sorry, again, but it's not time yet for that. (God, I love being cryptic.) One thing, though: I wouldn't kill off a new female hero that quickly. --Auspex]

There's Mox, the good ol' boy; Gurney, the comedian; Rockwell, the egotist; Asner [sic], the tough guy; and Anduin, the idiosyncratic sci-dude. So that would mean to complete the lineup of heroes there would have to be a weak but smart character that'd chicken out at the cry of battle like Upham in Saving Private Ryan. And in one of your interviews, Auspex, I heard you were gonna off one of the characters, so maybe this fifth hero lets down one of the other ones and costs them one of their lives. ...Or!! This guy could be the sixth member of the Infinity Watch sent from the Marvel Universe to ensure that Duran's hybrid plan would not destroy reality itself! ...Or!! This guy could be called "Deep Throat" --after all, it's the same guy in the Watergate Scandal that reported about the Republicans, and also the guy in MGS (Metal Gear Solid to those who don't know the jargon) that helps out Solid Snake!! ...Or!! It could be that Auspex, trying to appeal to a wider audience, like George Lucas did in Episode One with Jar Jar Binks, will add a cute sidekick. Maybe a Zergling with big cute Pikachu-like eyes, spoken in a sweet voice and acted like a puppy!! ...That's all I can think up for now! P.S. Wait, wait! How about Lothar from Warcraft II? Or any of the heroes that got stuck on Draenor the Red World? --Mr. T

[*Ace Ventura voice:* "Those are very nice, but I have taken a vow NOT to indulge in crossovers." Heh... Really, though, about the "weak but smart" thing, I'd have to say that there are a dozen other character types that would fit that niche just as well. By the way, it's "Aster," not "Asner." I'm not big on making old, lovable movie stars into StarCraft heroes. ;-) --Auspex]

After listening to the teaser trailer (which was a work of art, BTW) I know that the secret hero has got to be the Executor from Episode I! Because this is a Terran campaign, you'll be controlling some sort of Terran commander dude. But Turmalis says "En Taro Adun, Executor," so I know it has to be him! Although if you just switched between controlling the Executor and some sort of Commander, it would still be fine. :) Also, I have that Antioch wallpaper you put up set as my background. :) Looks freaking awesome in 32-bit. :) --Cromar, loyal Antioch fan

[Interesting guess, but no cigar. You are right about the viewpoint switching around a lot, though. Also, thanks for the compliments on the trailer and the wallpaper. I was hoping people would enjoy those. --Auspex]

I was looking at the SCM Creations section of the page and noticed in the Tornod Mining Camp level, Trent Aster mentions a prospector named Kaiyrnyn. Could he be a Terran friend of Trent, but a prospector like Ian? Just a thought. --Jerec13

[Oooh, good eye... but no, that's wrong. Nice try, though. Kaiyrnyn is also mentioned in Trench in Bora Dalis, which is a personal log in one of the production updates in the Features section of the site. Kaiyrnyn is a Terran... sorta. He's actually a mutant, which explains the sketch in that update. Good guesses here, folks. --Auspex]

Hi! You never said one per person. :) [Guymelef's first E-mail was posted in the first mailbag search; it was probably one of the wackiest. --Auspex] This time though, perhaps something serious. (God forbid!) Obviously the new hero will definetly be NEW in accordance with your policy of never EVER tampering with the regular StarCraft Universe, so it would be definetly impossible for anybody to guess your new hero, SO YOU SHOULDN'T HAVE ASKED US TO GUESS IN THE FIRST PLACE!!! J/K :) But I must venture one, soooo... Is it the pilot who flew the Scout that held the Psi Emitter in the ending missions of part one? For the guy that destroyed the source of the psionic disturbance --he by all rights should be hailed as a hero, right? I mean, "dodging" all of those spore attacks and then "spearheading" the psi pulse to destroy the Zerg!?! Well, even if I am wrong I'll bet you didn't think of that guy. --Guymelef

[Oooooh, good one! Very creative, but you're not quite there, and yes, I HAD thought of him. You people are getting really close, though... --Auspex]

My guess is that the new hero is Khrillian the Dark Templar pilot, because in your latest SCM Creation, Arid Alliance has his name under that quote beside the mini-map picture. --Prendergast

[BING BING BING BING BING!! Tell him what he's won! Good eye, VERY good eye, my friend. The Force is strong with you. --Auspex]

Without further ado, I present [[The Antioch Chronicles, Episode II Characters|Khrillian]], Dark Templar pilot and historian of the ancient texts.

Good guesses, all around, everybody.

--Auspex Turmalis, June 22, 1999
{{antiochcopyright}}
