Am I glad it's over? Hell yes. Am I going to do this again next year? Hell yes. Am I mostly happy with my novel? Hell yes. Would I change some things if I were writing it over again? Hell yes. Especially after the 50,000 word mark, it was tough for me to write some things, even though I had a pretty clearly idea of where I wanted to be, and what I wanted to be writing about. If I were going to go through and edit, that would probably receive the most intention, so it ties together better, but for now I just wanted to get to 'the end', and maybe worry about that stuff later. I don't think I'm going to do a re-write, though, because there are several other projects I would like to carry over this newfound writing proliferation into. When I started, I had no idea how this was going to end. In fact, I knew little of the plot. Just about every plot twist came from me thinking, "hey, that would be cool," and then making it happen somehow. As a result, there are some things that don't really tie together, or don't really make any sense in the big picture. Seira's dream with the voice comes to mind, or Mack's repeated dreams about his war. Some other things kind of spring out of nowhere, like Rafe and Seira being involved (something I always planned, just never got around to really advancing, but I couldn't end it without having that happen.) Like the characters of Diana and Tirse. Like Bear ending up playing a big role, instead of just being a name I created to round out the village of Bay. Like Mack not even really being the main character. Like the legend of Seth, which, when brought full circle, ended up meaning Mack would be dying. That was something I thought of around Chapter 13, which is why Chapter 14 existed. That, too, was probably a bit implausible, but hey, that's the breaks. But, considering I wrote the first 50,000 words in 23 days, and the rest in another three days, and tried not to get bogged down with stuff like consistency and plausibility, I'd say it wasn't too bad. No word on the final number of subtle Star Wars jokes I threw in there by accident. Hm, I thought I would have more to say here, but that's not really happening. I'll probably edit this from time to time if I get questions from people about the story. In the meantime, I'll see you wherever it is that I normally see you.
