Seawolf
Here Seawolf patrols the forums back in the olden days, when WASTE was young and Seawolf was, too. He said "pilgrim" a lot back then. No one knows why.

Little known fact about Seawolf: he was the original star of Die Hard. When he broke his ankle, however, he was unable to play the part, so Bruce Willis stood in for him.

I've set up a LiveJournal that I'll likely use instead of this now. And yes, I'll actually update it from time to time. Though who knows? Maybe I'll do both. *shrug* Check back in another three months to find out. :P

Oh yeah. And I will finish off my bio soon. Really. Maybe.

Well, as suspected, everything about the Illinois trip went off without a hitch. Her family apparently loved me, and I liked them just fine in return. Her mother thought I was wonderful, her dad trusted me (which is apparently quite an accomplishment), her brother thought I was cool (despite whooping him in chess :P), her extended family thought I was nice and personable (even though my time with them was limited due to stupid allergies), and even her pets latched onto me, sometimes literally. I'm happy about that since the last boy around there wasn't ever nearly as well-recieved or well-liked, despite numerous trips. I pulled it off somehow in one, and I wasn't even trying that hard! My parents would be proud. :D

So yeah. kate and I saw Return Of The King and Chicago (and despite the cold and her apparent loathing for the city, we BOTH seemed to have a good time...after lunch was in our bellies, at least :P), spent some time with her friends at a Japanese market (and I had my first pocky!), ate tasty Italian beef and Chicago-style pizza, played games, drove around her hometown, and ended every day the best way possible: with a nice cuddle. :) I already wish I could go back, but it will be many months before that will be possible.

One major reason for that is that I have finally landed myself a full-time job, and it's actually in my field! Well, kind of. Beginning January 26th, I will be an "Information Technology Specialist" at the Defense Logistics Agency. I'm more curious about it than excited so far, since in typical government fashion, I've been told as little as possible about the position. But since they call even janitors some type of "Specialist", the title makes me a little leary. (Leery? Leerie. Learee. However the flunk you spell that.) What I HAVE been told makes it sound like a glorified repair/tech support guy, fixing computer hardware and software problems in the office. Not what I enjoy doing. But it's for two years (unless I mess up badly), I start at $33,000-$39,000 (still figuring that one out), and after a year I get bumped up another $10k and they start working on my preciousssss security clearance. After two years I get another $10k hike and can either stay with the DLA or lateral to another government agency...with my clearance intact. It's tough to get anywhere in the government without a clearance, I've discovered. Unless you WANT to be a "Sanitation Expert Specialist".

What else...? I'm gonna throw myself back into AW tonight. Things have just been nuts since I got back and I haven't had a chance yet. I saw The Two Towers Extended DVD and RotK again with my family since I got back, so that's practically a whole day gone. We had my aunt and uncle over, I had a dinner and games at a friend's house, and I've worked a few days at my soon-to-be-ex-job at Capitol College. In some ways, I'll kinda miss this place. Good people here, and I know the office like the back of my hand. I SHOULD considering I've been here three years, longer than the current director. Oh, my cell phone got stolen two days ago. It was the nigth I went to see RotK again, and I also did some shopping and had dinner out, so somehow, somewhere, it came off my belt during that and some puke found it and used it to call his buddy and my doctor. Weird, no? Of all the numbers in my phone list that he COULD have called.... *shrug* Maybe he wants to know how to get over his stealing habit. Who knows.

So yeah. The craziness is mostly over, at least until the 26th. Then I REALLY become old. May as well. I already have the senile part down.

So. In about... *checks watch* ...twenty hours, I'll be landing in Chicago O'Hare International Airport for the start of four days and five nights with kate. Now granted, we've met twice before, but this trip will be quite different. I'll be meeting and spending time with her whole family (including those of the "extended" type) and hometown friends. Admittedly, I'm a bit—just a wee bit—nervous. Not to toot my own horn, but I tend to thrive in such scenarios, where my charisma (one of my few gifts) comes out and takes over. Still, it's never an entirely comfortable thing, meeting one's friends and especially their family. Both sides try desperately to think of things to say, to do, to make everything comfortable and end up causing the discomfort that inevitably creates those moments of uncomfortable silence, the smiling and nodding a couple dozen times, and the lies we tell about having to go to the bathroom or offer a drink to our new guest. So it goes.

Anyways, before I wax philosophical too much....

Long and short of it...I'm a little uneasy. I know things will be fine and we'll get along and the trip will be fun, but it's still one of those things that makes your stomach go into brief bouts of distress when your mind dwells on it for too long. The flight doesn't help. *shudder*

I'm looking forward to—and expecting to have—a good time. This will likely be the last time we see each other for several months, so we'll be making the best of it, with plenty of fun activities and also quiet times to talk and cuddle and just be together. Should be a blast, and I'm sure leaving on the morning of the 31st will be a bittersweet occasion.

Once again: so it goes.

See you all in five days.

It feels so good to have Antioch Wars released. Granted, there are still a couple minor problems (mostly with how I zipped it up...darm it all!) that I'll have to fix up, but the project itself is done. I can't describe how great it feels to be a part of something that's so cool and *GASP* actually getting completed! It's taking some getting used to. :P

I love this time of year. Christmas in just a couple days, time off work (where I still get the benefits of school breaks, one nice perk of working at a college ;)), and this year, a full five days with The Boo. Who could ask for anything more? Well, not having an orange advisery and terrorist chatter about hijacking more planes might help. HATE flying already, thanks. Can't you take Christmas off, Osama?

The one thing I don't get is New Year's. Such a silly holiday. Like anything actually changes at midnight on the 31st. Or is that midnight on the 1st? Whatever.
