8 December 2003 | But I never had you
Versions of this site:
- The Antioch Source—This was way back when MysteriousGuy brought up the idea on the old EZBoard forum. I think the idea of a community web site had been around before too. I got involved somehow and came up with this rather plain design. Don't think I ever showed it to anyone, since the project fizzled out pretty quickly.
- Taco Bell—My entry in the design contest. Technically, it won by one vote, but I didn't end up liking it so much by the end. It's a nice design, just not the most appropriate one.
- Antioch Forever, mkIIb—I. Hated. This. Design. It was neck-and-neck with my Taco Bell design, however, which makes me feel pretty bad about my Taco Bell design.
- Antioch Forever, mkIIb, Prototype—My attempt at HTMLizing the above (since at the time, I had an inclination to use both designs, since the vote was so close).
- Phal's First Design—A late entry into the contest. I don't really remember what it looked like.
- Antioch Forever, mkIV—This one was much nicer. Mag sort of pulled it out of nowhere too; a complete departure from the designs he had been working on up to this point, and I loved it.
- Antioch Forever, mkIVa—I think Seawolf complained about the brown color scheme (and both Mag and I seem to be interested in taking the unconventional route when feasible, which is why the brown design appealed to him), so he modified it and came up with this one. This was the one we used, obviously. I think it's equally nice as the brown one.
- Coming Soon, mkI—That splash screen that was up for half a year or so.
- Coming Soon, mkII—An alternate version of the splash screen that I didn't use until the day I moved the site from my server to antiochforever.com (it was up for a few hours until the move was complete).
- Phal's Second Design—Not sure what we're doing with this one yet. It's very nice, though.
- Red Moon—This one'll probably be taking over. Magnum did the title image that the entire thing is based around. I like it quite a bit.
- Antioch Forever, mkIV, Christmas—What we're using for December (and hopefully not too much of January, depending on how soon I can get a hold of a computer with an FTP client).
7 December 2003 | It's getting hard to be someone, but it all works out
Typhoon's Nightly Forum Crawl: Marvel as I sort all of the threads on the front page of the Antioch forum at 2:48 in the morning.
The following threads suck:
- New computer... Soon—I can count the relevant and intelligent replies on my hands. After amputating both of them.
- Stuff on The War On Terror—Few of the posts attempt to even emulate some semblence of a political argument (the opposition seems a bit bored of it anyway).
- The End of the World—I'm not a fan of the "OMG LUK @ TEH FLASH" posts to begin with, and this one's pretty old to boot.
- Macross Zero #3: Out, Diablo 2 tonight, and What happened to Stokermania '03?—Simply because I don't care.
- Star Trek Similarities—Who honestly gives a fuck?
- Word 2k CD Key—Not that I don't believe Zeratul's case, but it's warez and illegal whether or not he has a justification for it, and it's against the forum rules regardless of intent. And really, it's never been easier to warez something, so why can't you folks do it yourselves? Or at least PM Visser instead of making a public post brazenly in violation of one of the forum's few rules.
- Endarire's Words of the Day—If I wanted random words, I'd subscribe to one of the countless Word of the Day mailing lists out there. I don't want random words.
Okay, it just gets worse from here, so that's good enough.
Anyway, I'm in a better mood than the tone of this update might indicate, since I'm done with all of my first semester's classes. Finals are still up, but I don't think they'll be too difficult. I'm going back home for the first time since August after that, although I'd really rather never return. I have to turn off and unplug my computer from the 15th to whenever I get back, which sucks (running Windows Server 2003 Enterprise alongside Win2k right now, by the way; it's pretty slick, but I'm not sure if I want to keep it or not yet).
Another screen shot of a really old program running in WinNT 5.2:
The program in Windows 1.01 was about the same as the program in Windows ME (which was the last version of the DOS-based 9x line). The menus are nearly identical. I think the only feature present in the ME version but not the first one is "Set Font" (which wasn't in 95). The 2k and XP versions of Notepad are fairly pimped out, though (specifically the ability to open and save files larger than 64 KB or so, find-and-replace, and go-to line).
If you have a spare floppy and a bored moment, you can try out Windows 1.01.
(The RecentChanges page reports that I updated this page yesterday at 7:54 PM. The Preferences page accurately reports the current server time as 12:55 AM. The server is located in Monterey Park, California. Hmm.)
1 December 2003 | We have existence, and it's all we share
Holy shit, it's December. Where did my youth just go?
Anyway, hope you like the December theme, you vitality-sucking parasites. Even snowflakes aren't beautiful and unique snowflakes, it seems. I didn't have time to Photoshop an Auspex nativity scene, sadly, but there's always next year. Which'll be here any minute now, I think.
Miscellaneous
Here is my 75 KB penis extensi—I mean, album collection.
This is a collection of list files for Blizzard game MPQs. They're the most complete I've ever seen, although mostly because I found the really obscure files that no one uses anyway.
Essential Windows software that you don't even have to warez (in approximate order from least to most esoteric):
